Black oats are a separate oat species with a different nutritional composition than the usual white oats. There is about 50 percent more unsaturated fat and 15 percent less carbohydrates in black oats than in regular white oats. Black oats are also more resistant to disease, which results in cleaner products than regular oats. We do not need to spray our grain. Black oats have otherwise got their name because of the color of the outer shell which is black. There are actually white, yellow, red and black oats, and the most common are white oats.
